Music Discovery Program for Lifelong Musicians

Is It Ever Too Late in Your Life to Learn an Instrument?

You may be interested in learning an instrument like guitar, piano, banjo, bass, or ukulele.

But you wonder if it’s even worth pursuing. You may feel as though it’s too late in your life to pick something up like a musical instrument.

You might relate to Karen, who's been enrolled in the Lifelong Discovery Program for years now.

She’s a retired nurse practitioner whose brother passed away decades before and had left his guitar with her. She wanted to learn to play his guitar in honor of him.

And she finally felt like she was in a good place in her life to do just that.

She reached out to me asking about guitar lessons after finding me online.

She had never played the guitar before.

Shortly after enrolling in the Lifelong Discovery Program, she learned basics like chords, strum patterns, single-note songs and melodies, and popular songs that she loved, all while developing good foundational habits.

After being introduced to some fingerstyle songs, she found that she really wanted to try out classical guitar.

About a year into her classical guitar study, she had learned everything from how to sight-read classical guitar music to understanding left and right-hand fingering techniques.

Along the way, she’s built up a repertoire of dozens of solo classical guitar pieces that she’s either memorized or can sight-read through.

Then there’s Jim.

Jim had lived in California and worked for the Oakland Police Department for 40 years. After he retired, he relocated to Cumming, Georgia.

He had recently started playing the banjo and wanted to continue after he moved.

He contacted me, we scheduled a 30-Minute Discovery, and then he enrolled in the program.

Over the years, Jim’s learned bluegrass music, John Denver classics, Celtic tunes, Christmas songs.

He’s even performed in several of our twice-a-year concerts, something he never thought he’d be able to do!

So, can you learn an instrument after you’ve retired, even if you’ve never played an instrument before in your life?

Unequivocally, yes!

And this is why I made the Lifelong Discovery Program.

Here are some reasons that retired adults are getting results from this program:

● Less work stress means more time and flexibility to learn something like a musical instrument.
● The main reason people enroll in this program is that it sounds like a fun way to stay active…and they’re right!
● More time, flexibility, and freedom in their life means they don’t have to stress over getting hours of weekly practice—they can literally just have fun with it and enjoy the process of getting results, week by week.

Here is some of what you can expect from the Discovery Program for Busy Adults:

Build a repertoire of dozens of songs at your own pace

Discover the #1 purpose of good technique for your hands and fingers, and why this is so important

Learn how much practice is actually needed to make progress…the answer might surprise you!.

Find out the most effective and efficient way to practice to maximize your progress

Develop the essential skills [needs a name, like “Discovery Building Blocks” or “Discovery Foundational Skills”] that make learning new songs easier and faster

Here’s what to look forward to when you join the program:

Weekly 30-Minute Coaching Sessions

Students learn all their songs, techniques, skills, and theory concepts in weekly, 30-minute, one-on-one coaching sessions.

Quarterly Progress Reports

Never be left in the dark about how you are progressing. Every few months, you’ll receive a personalized assessment of your progress, showing where you’ve made strides and areas that need a little more focus.

“Remote Support” Bonus

If you ever have questions at home about a song or technique, help is just a text, phone call or email away. We’ll make sure you stay supported during the week so you don’t have to wait until the next coaching session.

Live Concerts

After a few months, you’ll be invited to perform at our twice-a-year Live Concert.

Yes, adults perform in these concerts! This isn’t just for kids and teens. We have an even mix of performers ranging in age from 5 years old to 75 years old.

Monthly Concert Prep

No more being nervous playing in front of a crowd.

If the idea of providing music at a Live Concert scares you, this is the antidote.

Playing your instrument on your own and in weekly coaching sessions is how you will make most of your progress. But performing for an audience is a different experience.

Before you’re ready for these Live Concerts, monthly concert prep performances will teach you how to govern your nerves for the “main event.” Often, these recorded performances are so good that you’ll want to share them with your friends and family!

Schedule a Free Thirty Minute Discovery Lesson

We are currently welcoming enrollees into the Discovery Program for Lifelong Musicians.

Because all sessions are one-on-one, enrollment is limited by the number of weekly time slots available. Once spots are filled, new prospective students are placed on a waitlist.

Every one of our programs begins with a 30-Minute Discovery at no cost to you and no obligation to enroll. Even after you enroll in one of our programs, if for whatever reason you aren’t happy with your experience, you are free to discontinue the program.
